Getting warmer faster

Earth was formed about 4,6 billion years ago its temperature has changed through history.

it has warmer in the than it is today sometimes much colder. But it is the at which Earth is now up that is alarming. For the first time in history, humans, not nature, are the main  of Earth’s changing climate —or, as it is commonly known, global warming. 

Ice core Scientists study Earth’s climate history by drilling ice cores out of ice sheets in Antarctica. They examine bubbles of ancient air inside the ice.

On the rise

When we burn fuel, gases are released, or emitted, into the atmosphere. Our gas emissions have been on the rise since the 1800s, when people started burning coal in factories to produce power. As emissions have increased, so has Earth’s temperature.

Ice ages For long periods of time—called ice ages—Earth’s surface was almost completely covered with ice. Much of the ice was stored in glaciers, such as this one in Antarctica.
