Environment regulation for waste management
Waste materials are very harmful and to the environment. It can destroy nature and the environment very badly and the demolition of the environment is ultimately the destruction or demolition of human and animal lives on the earth. So, managing the waste materials is as important as Saving our lives. That is why the MoEF&CC ( union ministry of environment, forest and climate change) recently implemented the new regulations on waste materials and here we are discussing some major rules and regulations of the same. These regulations which have been made by MoEF&CC in 2016 will replace the previous municipal solid wastes management and handling act, of 2000.
This act and regulations mainly consist of six types of major waste management regulations, these are plastic, e-waste, biomedical, hazardous, construction and demolition waste materials.
These rules will not be limited just to municipal areas but will include all the major areas wherefrom waste materials are being produced such as urban agglomeration, census towns, industrial areas etc.
Major points and highlighted regulation of the solid waste management regulation, 2016
Below are some major points and highlight regulation of SWM-2016 (solid waste management regulation, 2016)
1. Segregation of materials at source
As per new rules and regulations of the solid waste management regulation, 2016 now it is very necessary to separate the waste materials into different parts at the source before transferring them to the collector. This segregation includes biodegradable wastes, dry wastes (plastic, paler, metal etc.) And domestic dangerous wastes etc.
2 Collecting and disposing of the sanitary wastes
The manufacturer or brand owner of sanitary products such as napkins, and diapers have to be responsible for disposing of their waste materials properly otherwise the government can take a strict decision against the brand or manufacturer.
3. Gathering packaging wastes
According to the new rules, such substances that are packaged or packaged will have to keep only in a set place so that they can be easily removed and collected environment to minimize damage.
4. Processing and treatment of waste materials.
As per the regulations, there are broad rules and regulations on how waste materials should be processed and treated or disposed of. If we summarise the processing and treatment of waste then the biodegradable waste can be disposed of through composting and other residual waste must be given to the authorized. Waste collectors and agencies will manage these things.
5. Monitoring committee for monitoring the implementation of the act
There has been an altogether new committee committed to monitoring the implementation of the act and regulations. This committee meets with various central and state ministers once a year to see and monitor the implementation of the act.
