For a huge problem like climate change,we need big, global solutions. That means the whole world working together, with scientists gathering and sharing information, and governments taking action to find solutions. International efforts, such as the Kyoto Protocol, are a good start, but there is still much more to be done.

Council effort The city council of Barcelona, Spain, hopes to distribute 3,000 of these special bikes. They can be borrowed for free, and are a clean alternative to driving a car, which releases greenhouse gases.

CFC victory

The Kyoto Protocol followed an earlier international success. With the Montreal Protocol in 1987, 189 countries banned the use of CFC chemicals that destroy ozone. Although the seasonal hole in the ozone layer over Antarctica is still growing, it is now growing at a much slower rate.

Rule makers Despite the success of the Kyoto Protocol, there is still work to be done. Australia, Turkey, and the United States have not yet signed the Kyoto Protocol. Talks, such as this one in Germany, are still going on to find the best way to slow global warming.
